Calgary is fortunate to have some pretty kick ass restaurants. In fact just head over to Chow Down in Cowtown and we’ll tell you all about them! We’re also fortunate to have some of Canada’s best wine lists.Vin Room is one such list. With awards from Avenue magazine and VanWineFest, Vin Room has entrenched itself as one of Calgary’s premier wine destinations. Vin Room proprietor Phoebe Fung says it’s their wine list selection process that sets Vin Room apart.

“Our philosophy is about choosing boutique producers who represent the best of each region,” says Fung. “Our extensive wine list of over 106 wines by the taste means that you can sample several wines from different regions of the world in one visit.”

Fung says part of keeping that extensive wine list unique means updating it several times a year.”We update our list three to four times a year, so as to keep the wine list fresh for our guests,” said Fung.”We are lucky enough to have good relationships with many importers,” Fung said, “so we are aware of the latest offerings. As our tapas menu – made with local ingredients and enhanced with a global twist – is made to compliment our extensive wine list, we like to have different styles and varietals so that you can travel around the world in your food and wine pairings.”

“Our Wine Director and Sommeliers have the best job, as they get to taste wine each week to find the best boutique products for our list.”

If you’re worried that you’ll have to shell out big bucks for a great experience at Vin Room, Fung says they pride themselves on finding exclusive wines for their guest in a range of price points, styles and regions.

“We price our wines competitively to the market. With 100 wines by the glass, we have the ability to buy directly from the Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission, which allows us to pass some savings to our guests. We also sell our wines by the 2 oz taste so that guests are not committed to a full glass when they are experimenting on finding a new favourite,” said Fung.

“We provide a range of price points, without charging a premium for the 2 oz taste.”
